If you’ve invested in solar panels for your home or business, you already know the benefits — reduced energy bills, lower carbon footprint, and long-term savings. But what many people don’t anticipate is the growing problem of birds nesting under solar panels, especially pigeons. This issue is particularly common in urban and suburban areas across Gloucester, where rooftops offer a warm, sheltered environment for pests to take hold.
At Streak Free Cleaning, we provide professional solar panel bird proofing to stop the problem at its source. Our service is quick, discreet, and highly effective — designed to protect both your panels and your peace of mind.
Why Do Birds Nest Under Solar Panels?
The space beneath solar panels is warm, dry, and protected from the elements — the perfect nesting site for pigeons and other birds. Once they move in, they rarely leave on their own. Their presence can lead to a range of problems including:
• Constant noise, especially early in the morning
• Messy droppings on your roof, driveway, and garden
• Feathers and nesting materials clogging gutters and downpipes
• Acidic bird waste damaging roofing materials
• Risk of mites and other parasites entering your loft or home
• Decreased solar panel efficiency due to debris and shading
What starts as a minor nuisance quickly turns into a serious maintenance issue. The longer birds are allowed to nest, the worse the damage becomes.
Our Bird Proofing Solution
Our bird proofing method involves installing a discreet mesh barrier system around the edge of your solar panels. This mesh is designed to prevent birds from gaining access underneath the array while allowing full airflow and ensuring your panels remain fully operational.
The mesh is:
• Made from high-quality, UV-resistant stainless steel or coated wire
• Clipped in place without drilling or damaging your solar panel frames
• Weatherproof and corrosion-resistant for long-term protection
• Virtually invisible from the ground
We use professional tools and safety equipment to complete the job cleanly and safely. If nests are already present, we will first remove all debris and sanitise the area before installing the mesh.
Safe, Insured and Experienced
All work is carried out by our trained team using the correct height safety equipment, with full public liability insurance for your peace of mind. We’ve worked on everything from small bungalows to large detached homes across Gloucester and the surrounding areas.
We take extra care to ensure the solar panels are not scratched, damaged, or altered in any way that might affect your manufacturer warranty. Our mesh kits are non-invasive and approved for use with most major panel brands.
How Long Does It Take?
Most installations can be completed in half a day to a full day, depending on the number of panels and the level of cleaning required beforehand. We’ll give you a clear, fixed quote after a brief assessment — no hidden costs, no surprises.
Add-On Services
While we’re on-site, many customers choose to combine bird proofing with:
• Gutter cleaning to clear any nesting debris and droppings
• Solar panel surface cleaning to improve panel efficiency
• Roof moss removal for a full exterior refresh
This makes it a perfect opportunity to restore your roof to top condition and prevent future problems.
